Champagne For My Real Friends plate, 2024, by Hylton Nel, £3,400
I am a long-time fan of the South African ceramicist Hylton Nel. I am not alone. Kim Jones collaborated with him for his SS25 show for Dior Men, the floor space populated with blown-up versions of his distinctive cat sculptures. It’s almost impossible to find a cat, but I would be happy with one of his witty plates. stevenson.info
Molesworth & Bird tablecloth, £110, and napkins, £15
For years I watched a very elegant woman and her Labrador swimming together in many of the same bays in Cornwall as me, and we became quite friendly. Her name is Julia Bird, and along with her business partner, Melanie Molesworth, she has been pressing seaweeds gathered near their homes. They have then built up a collection of wonderful prints, cushions, tablecloths, napkins and more. I would be thrilled to receive some cushions or a tablecloth and mixed napkins. molesworthandbird.com
Our Place aluminium and titanium cookware set, £535
My friend the chef Skye Gyngell told me about Our Place cookware and its fabulous four-piece Always Pan and Perfect Pot set. It’s non-toxic and comes in great colours; a nice touch is that each piece comes with its own wooden spoon or spatula. Perfect for my daughter who is about to leave home. fromourplace.co.uk
The Lacquer Company lacquer and steel Rita ice bucket, £350
I’ve always struggled to find a great ice bucket, but when I saw this ’70s style one by Rita Konig from The Lacquer Company, I was smitten. thelacquercompany.co.uk
Claverton Cloches glass and cast-iron cloche, £420
These Victorian-style cloches are beautiful miniature glasshouses. They protect your vegetables from bugs and shelter plants from the elements while looking fantastically stylish. I like how they embrace traditional craftsmanship. clavertoncloches.com
Nakano olive-wood Mito knife set, £130
A good knife is everything. My chef friends tell me that Nakano knives are excellent so I bow to their wisdom. I like the look of this set in olive wood. nakano-knives.com
Volcanoes, 2023, by Joe Fox, £6,000
My son is an artist. Every year he promises me a painting, then someone comes along and buys the one I want. Maybe this year I’ll get lucky. He has a great sense of colour, and I find these pastel paintings very beautiful. joe-fox.com
John Webb stoneware jar, £48
I like to keep teabags in stoneware pots – there is something old-fashioned about them. John Webb lives in my local town of Lostwithiel, and I visit him whenever I can. He also sells his work at the Leach Pottery in St Ives, which is well worth a visit. leachpottery.com
Marshall portable Willen II speaker, £99.99
I like the retro chic of this mini speaker. It’s compact and has really good-quality sound. A brilliant gift for anyone who travels a lot. marshall.com
C Atherley hand cream, £18 for 75ml
I’m mad about geraniums: I grow Attar of Rose scented pelargoniums principally for the scent that is emitted when the leaves are rubbed. Obviously, then, I am a huge fan of all things created by C Atherley, founded by the brilliant Cath Kidston, a natural bodycare range with products made only from distinctive geranium fragrances. It’s hard to choose from this delicious range but I think this rich hand cream makes an excellent stocking-filler. c-atherley.com
The Houghton Collection wicker Sassoon lounger, from £2,040
My garden in Cornwall is very romantic: it’s not big but it has charm. I’d like to give my husband this wicker lounger. He is not easy to find gifts for, but I can imagine him sitting on this, reading in the shade of a tree. thehoughtoncollection.com
Lin Lovekin willow woven basket, from £35
I am very attached to the community of local craftspeople in Cornwall. Lin Lovekin is a basket maker who grows a lot of her willow at home, and I have a few of her clever vases with willow woven around the glass. Now I have my eye on her practical kitchen-utensil baskets. linlovekinbaskets.co.uk
Vanderhurd x 8 Holland Street checkerboard rug, £1,980
This hand-woven dhurrie in bay and straw would look perfect in my sitting room. 8hollandstreet.com
Ryenn’s Eyes gold sculpted collar, £650
I like very clean jewellery; for many years I have worn a cluster of simple gold bracelets that I never take off. This would work very well with my style. It reminds me of something my mother would wear in the ’70s. ryennseyes.com
Green Wolf Lighting Murano-glass Ametista II table light, £380
These chic cordless lights are energy-efficient and can shine or flicker like a candle, to which they’re a fun alternative. They come in a fabulous selection of colours. Perfect for indoors or glowing on a summer garden table. abask.com
Joss Graham Gallery bamboo Chik blinds, from £25 per sq ft
I recently saw these beautiful blinds in a friend’s sitting room. Invented in north India and traditionally used for protection against direct sunlight, “chiks” have a lovely natural finish. Fine strips of bamboo are horizontally attached and decorated with intricate latticework. Available from the treasure trove that is Joss Graham Gallery in Belgravia. jossgraham.com
RV Roger tulip bulbs, from 35p each
Bulbs for the garden make a great practical and creative gift. Tulips need planting in January so they make ideal Christmas gifts; every spring I have a riot of them on my terrace. RV Roger in North Yorkshire is an award-winning nursery founded in 1913 and has a wonderful selection – and very helpful staff. rvroger.co.uk
